Friday of the Fifth Week of Lent

Episode 12

Notre Dame Basilica Schola – The Notre Dame Basilica Schola is a liturgical choir specializing in unaccompanied choral music, with a special focus on Renaissance polyphony. The choir is made up of around 24 singers drawn from the faculty, staff, and graduate students at the University.

As difficult as it is to admit our failings and shortcomings before a loved one or supervisor, it is even more difficult to stand before the Lord, bearing our own sinfulness. Our shame can prevent us from turning to God for forgiveness. How courageous it is to stand before the Lord and beg for God’s mercy! Such courage is born of humility that recognizes the Lord as our deliverer and his mercy as our saving grace.

(Lyrics)
Hide not thou thy face from us, O Lord,
and cast not off thy servant in thy displeasure;
for we confess our sins unto thee
and hide not our unrighteousness.
For thy mercy’s sake, for thy mercy’s sake,
deliver us from all our sins, deliver us from all our sins.
For thy mercy’s sake, for thy mercy’s sake,
deliver us from all our sins, deliver us from all our sins.
