Monday of Holy Week

Episode 13

During the season of Lent, FaithND will provide meditations on this season of preparation through musical offerings from the many Notre Dame choirs and sacred music ensembles. Songs will be featured on Ash Wednesday, each Tuesday and Saturday of Lent, and every day of Holy Week through the Octave of Easter.

The Vocare Ensemble, Notre Dame-Newman Centre Dublin – The Newman Vocare Ensemble consists of musicians and choristers at Newman’s University Church on St. Stephen’s Green in Dublin, Ireland. The University stewards Newman University Church and has now founded the Notre Dame – Newman Centre for Faith and Reason.

As we journey into Holy Week, we prepare ourselves for the emotional and spiritual intensity of the days ahead. Today’s song calls on God in to be gracious and merciful to us as we enter into the Paschal mystery but it also reminds us that “we must glory in the cross.” The mystery of our salvation draws us to Christ’s sacrifice and the path to glory always leads us to the cross. As we journey towards Easter, let us embrace the cross because “through it we are saved and set free.”

(Lyrics)

English

We must glory in the cross of our Lord, Jesus Christ: salvation is here, our life and resurrection! Through it we are saved and set free.

(O God, be gracious to us; be gracious and bless us, and let your face shed its light upon us, and be gracious to us.)

We must glory in the cross of our Lord, Jesus Christ: salvation is here, our life and resurrection! Through it we are saved and set free.

(So will your ways be known upon the earth, and all the nations of the world learn your saving help.)

We must glory in the cross of our Lord, Jesus Christ: salvation is here, our life and resurrection! Through it we are saved and set free.

Latin

Deus, misereatur nostri, et benedicat nobis: illuminet vultum suum super nos et misereatur nobis.

Ut cognoscamus in terra viam tuam: in omnibus gentibus salutare tuum.
