Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion
Notre Dame Folk Choir – The Folk Choir serves the University of Notre Dame as one of the principal liturgical choirs, singing every Sunday during the academic year at the 11:45 A.M. Mass in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart.
On Palm Sunday, we remember Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. We even sing the words that the crowds greeted him with in the Sanctus during the Eucharistic Prayer at every Mass: “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!” But we know that this acclaim quickly turned to rejection as the same crowds called for his crucifixion. The doleful song that we hear today laments this betrayal but also offers us a glimmer of hope. Jesus, though rejected, is still holy, still merciful, and his death takes away the sins of the world.
