Saturday in the Octave of Easter
During the Octave of Easter, FaithND will continue to provide meditations for this joyful season through musical offerings from the many Notre Dame choirs and sacred music ensembles. Songs will be featured each day through the Second Sunday of Easter.
Notre Dame Folk Choir – The Folk Choir serves the University of Notre Dame as one of the principal liturgical choirs, normally singing every Sunday during the academic year at the 11:45 A.M. Mass in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart (changes to liturgical music are currently in place due to the pandemic).
In this video, the Notre Dame Folk Choir demonstrates some of the creativity and ingenuity that our community has produced in the context of an academic year under Covid-19 protocols. This song is, in a way, a metaphor for the virtual journey we have taken together through the past several weeks. Like the Folk Choir, many of us have not been able to experience these holy days gathered together, singing out the familiar songs that bring our faith to life. During these trying times, we have found innovates ways to feel connected and pray together, such as online liturgical experiences and this Songs of Notre Dame series. As we settle in to the joy of the Easter season, we also look forward to the day when we will be able to leave behind the restrictions of this pandemic and embrace one another in person. While we wait in hope for that final day when God will call us “home far beyond the skies,” we also anticipate a day coming soon when the clouds of this pandemic will clear. What an unclouded day that will be!
(Lyrics)
Oh, they tell me of a home far beyond the skies
Oh, they tell me of a home far away
Oh, they tell me of a home where no storm clouds rise
Oh, they tell me of an unclouded day
Oh, the land of cloudless day
Oh, the land of an unclouded sky
Oh, they tell me of a home where no storm clouds rise
Oh, they tell me of an unclouded day
Oh, they tell me of a home where my friends have gone
Oh, they tell me of that land far away
Where the tree of life in eternal bloom
Sheds its fragrance through the unclouded day
Oh, the land of cloudless day
Oh, the land of an unclouded sky
Oh, they tell me of a home where no storm clouds rise
Oh, they tell me of an unclouded day
Oh, they tell me of a King in His beauty there
And they tell me that mine eyes shall behold
Where He sits on the throne that is whiter than snow
In the city that is made of gold
Oh, the land of cloudless day
Oh, the land of an unclouded sky
Oh, they tell me of a home where no storm clouds rise
Oh, they tell me of an unclouded day
Oh, they tell me that He smiles on His children there
And His smile drives their sorrows all away
And they tell me that no tears ever come again
In that lovely land of unclouded day
Oh, the land of cloudless day
Oh, the land of an unclouded sky
Oh, they tell me of a home where no storm clouds rise
Oh, they tell me of an unclouded day
