Thursday of the Second Week of Lent
AUDIO MEDITATION:
Henryk Siemiradzki (Polish, 1843-1902), Christ and the Samaritan Woman. Public domain.
FULL TEXT:
When the Samaritan woman is confused about the living water Jesus offers, he replies, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again; but whoever drinks the water I shall give will never thirst; the water I shall give will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
This painting captures this moment well—the woman is taken aback by Jesus approaching her, but he explains that what he has to offer is much greater than the water in this well. The abundance of life around them reveals the power of physical water—how much more powerful is the divine life that comes from Jesus, who offers living water?
What can we do to drink of the living water Jesus offers? How might it change us to become a spring of water for others?
