Easter Sunday

Episode 19

During the Octave of Easter, FaithND will continue to provide meditations for this joyful season through musical offerings from the many Notre Dame choirs and sacred music ensembles. Songs will be featured each day through the Second Sunday of Easter.

Notre Dame Folk Choir – The Folk Choir serves the University of Notre Dame as one of the principal liturgical choirs, normally singing every Sunday during the academic year at the 11:45 A.M. Mass in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart (changes to liturgical music are currently in place due to the pandemic).

The season of Lent has its purpose. Its long days do an excellent job of leading us to self reflection, repentance, and spiritual transformation. Most of all, Lent inspires in us a longing for the joy of the resurrection, a joy that always come to us anew each time we enter triumphantly into the Easter season. As we let our “Alleluias” ring out once more in today’s song, the longing of our hearts is fulfilled in the promise of new and eternal life that comes to us in the resurrection of Christ. Today, Christ is risen. He is truly risen!

(Lyrics)
“Jesus lives! thy terrors now
Can, O Death, no more appall us;
Jesus lives! by this we know
Thou, O Grave, cannot enthrall us.
Alleluia!”
“Jesus lives! henceforth is death
But the gate to Life immortal;
This shall calm our trembling breath,
When we pass its gloomy portal.
Alleluia!”
“Jesus lives! our hearts know well
Naught from us His love shall sever;
Life, nor death, nor powers of hell
Tear us from His keeping ever.
Alleluia!”
“Jesus lives! to Him the Throne
Over all the world is given;
May we go where He is gone,
Rest and reign with Him in heaven.
Alleluia!”
