Friday After Ash Wednesday

In this season of Lent, we remember that our limited capacity for repentance is always met by God’s infinite capacity for forgiveness. As this song reminds us, only God can “give us [the] grace to amend our sinful lives.” On this Lenten journey, let us call to mind the things that prevent us from being in right relationship with God and with each other. We can lay all of these things upon the tender mercy of Christ and trust in his forgiveness.
(Lyrics)
Lord, for thy tender mercy’s sake,
lay not our sins to our charge,
but forgive that is past
and give us grace to amend our sinful lives;
to decline from sin and incline to virtue,
that we may walk in a perfect heart
before thee now and evermore. Amen.
