Holy Thursday
During the season of Lent, FaithND will provide meditations on this season of preparation through musical offerings from the many Notre Dame choirs and sacred music ensembles. Songs will be featured on Ash Wednesday, each Tuesday and Saturday of Lent, and every day of Holy Week through the Octave of Easter.
Notre Dame Basilica Schola – The Notre Dame Basilica Schola is a liturgical choir specializing in unaccompanied choral music, with a special focus on Renaissance polyphony. The choir is made up of around 24 singers drawn from the faculty, staff, and graduate students at the University.
Holy Thursday is well remembered by the faithful for the footwashing Jesus performs for his closest disciples and the Eucharistic meal that he shares with them. Today’s song reminds us that Jesus serves us, once again, in every celebration of the Eucharist. Just as Jesus gives us his body in the sacrament, so too he calls us to recognize his body in the world: all those in need of love and care. Let us wash their feet through acts of service just as Christ promises to wash us with his mercy.
(Lyrics)
Latin
Coenantibus autem illis accepit Jesus panem
Benedixit ac fregit deditque discipulis suis:
Accipite et manducate hoc est enim corpus meum.

While they were eating,
Jesus took the bread,
Blessed it and gave it to his disciples:
“Take and eat, for this is my body.”
