Monday in the Octave of Easter
During the Octave of Easter, FaithND will continue to provide meditations for this joyful season through musical offerings from the many Notre Dame choirs and sacred music ensembles. Songs will be featured each day through the Second Sunday of Easter.
Notre Dame Liturgical Choir – The University of Notre Dame Liturgical Choir is composed of approximately 70 undergraduate and graduate student singers and normally sings at the 10 A.M. Sunday Mass in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart (changes to liturgical music are currently in place due to the pandemic).
This song shows us that the joy of the Easter season is alive and well, even as we continue to observe the necessary precautions of a long and difficult pandemic. In this video, the Liturgical Choir gathers outdoors, physically distanced, and masked to record the song “If Ye Love Me.” This song reminds us that we often find it difficult to keep the commands of our faith, a challenge that has been mirrored in the struggles to observe public health recommendations during the pandemic. And yet, the meaning of the commandments that our faith requires is not in the commands themselves but in the love of God and love of neighbor at the foundation of each of them. This song reminds us that the Holy Spirit is our strength, our guide, and our “comforter” as we strive to live in the light of Christ.
(Lyrics)
If ye love me
Keep my commandments
And I will pray the father
(And I will pray the father)
And he shall give you another comforter
That he
(That he)
That he
May bide with you forever
E’en the spirit of
(E’en the spirit of)
E’en the spirit of truth
E’en the spirit of truth
E’en the spirit of truth
That he
(That he)
That he
May bide with you forever
E’en the spirit of
(E’en the spirit of)
E’en the spirit of truth
E’en the spirit of truth
E’en the spirit of truth
