Holy Leisure, Part VI
God’s action is the model for human action. If God “rested and was refreshed” on the seventh day, man too ought to “rest” and should let others, especially the poor, “be refreshed.” The sabbath brings everyday work to a halt and provides a respite. It is a day of protest against the servitude of work and the worship of money. –Catechism of the Catholic Church #2172

I’ve always been moved by God’s majesty reflected in landscapes. I took this photograph last fall at a vineyard in rural France, a few days after proposing to my fiancée. The vineyard is such a biblical theme, and rightly so. For what else is union with God but an intoxicating joy? The whole point of the Incarnation is to elevate and transform the mundane into the sacred—to turn water into wine, as Christ did at the wedding in Cana. With that image in mind, how apropos that I took this photo just after getting engaged! –Brian Torro ’09
