Pope St. Zephyrinus

St. Zephyrinus was pope from 198 until 217. During his pontificate, the early Church suffered from several heresies and he was known for keeping them all in check and defending the divinity of Jesus.
During this time, the young Church also endured great persecution under the Roman emperor, and Zephyrinus was known to be attentive and supportive to those Christians under his care.
Zephyrinus was not killed for his faith, but is honored as a martyr because he suffered greatly—both in mind and body—for defending the faith. His relics rest in the reliquary chapel.
St. Zephyrinus, who kept the early Church faithful during persecutions and heresies, pray for us!
